LARRY BAILEY HORSE WORLD

Horse Fever...Catch It!

Day 1

Today started just like any other day. We had breakfast and the girls and I were taken up to the new paddock area. It was sunny and warm and the ice and snow was melting. We had just gotten lunch when Buffy alerted us that she thought that Larry, Tracy and Sanna had just arrived at the barn. "Oh good" I thought, maybe we'll get to do something different. Sure enough, Buffy was right. Before you know it we were back in the barn. Things seemed normal, little did I know what was about to happen. I heard a commotion outside the barn and it sounded like everyone was standing around talking. A bang here, a screech of metal there, that didn't sound good. Next thing I know I'm following Spring out the barn and heading for a trailer. Not so fast! Whoa! Where are we going?! Mommy was trying to put me on that trailer with Spring, but I had no idea where we were going and I didn't want to get on. Then I saw mommy in the trailer and Larry was trying to lead me on. Well if Spring and mommy were in the trailer, that's where I wanted to be. So gingerly I stepped on the ramp and walked up into the trailer. I was really nervous and started to sweat. If I had palms, my palms would have been sweaty too. Last time I took a ride on a trailer...wait a minute, last time I took a ride on a trailer I ended up here with mommy. Not so bad. Maybe this wasn't going to be so bad either, after all mommy was right here in the trailer with me. I heard more discussion outside the trailer as the doors started closing in around me. But mommy was still there in the trailer with me and Sanna brought a bag of hay for me. I hollered at Spring to make sure she was still in the trailer and she was. Too late now, guess I'm going somewhere. Before I knew it, we were on our way. On our way where, I don't know, but it was moving.

As we traveled down the road I got more and more nervous about what was happening and where I was going. It sure is hot under this blanket. It seemed like a long time had gone by, but I guess actually it wasn't and the trailer came to a halt. I heard mommy's voice right outside the door and that certainly made me feel better. She opened the door and stepped in as they opened the doors behind me. They didn't actually want me to back out of this narrow little thing, did they? Oh yeah they did! First mommy was in front then seconds later she was behind me coaching me to step back as Sanna helped guide me from the front. Step by step I inched my way backing out.... which actually I did quite well. There she was, mommy standing right there waiting for me. She took the lead rope and walked me around and I got the first glimpse of the place. Woowee! It sure is nice here. Pine trees, beautiful grass lawns and boy, look at that barn! Ok, I think I'm starting to relax now.

Yup, we're going in the barn. I could get used to this. We walked down the alleyway and I hardly noticed the other occupants, I'll check them out later. We stopped at the end of the isle in front of a.........is this a stall?? Yes, this is my stall. A huge double stall with three windows and thick cushy bedding. I spent the next ten minutes checking it all out and pinching myself (can horses do that ? ) that this was really my new room with a view. This is all looking pretty good! A few minutes later mommy came back to the stall to check on me and I was feeling so good, my coat had dried from all the sweating I did on my way over. Boy, that was alot of worrying for nothing. Mommy told me that this was my new home and I was going to school here, and she was sure I was going to love it. I think she's right.

Day 8

As the sun rose this morning it came through one of my windows in my new stall. Things here are super nice and very peaceful. I've been able to get alot of needed rest!. The first few days here I spent getting myself  use to everything. Mommy has been here every day which really makes me feel better. I realize now though that I actually have two moms..... My new mom's name is Anna, and she gives me lots of hugs and kisses when mommy isn't here. She is really sweet and every time I make a little noise she runs over to me to see what I need or if I'm ok.......Boy,  I've never had so much attention paid to me, it sure feels nice.

I've been exercising in the indoor, and love the new footing, it makes me feel very springy!.... is that a word???? oh springy makes me think of my sister Springs Request. I've been so busy here getting use to everything, I've not thought too much of her or Buffy....I really miss them, we were so happy the three of us. It was so nice to have my sisters with me that now that they're not with me its starting to get me down. I mean, its a great place being here and all but it would be perfect if my girls were here too. I'll have to speak to mom about that............

Well little did I know that mom was thinking the same thing as me,...in fact both my moms were thinking it would be great to have the girls here so today to my great surprise I was just hanging my head out my stall feeling alittle glum, but who do I see walking down the alleyway toward me?? You guessed it my sister Buffy. !!!Mommy walked her right over to me and we touched noses and whinnied at each other. I can't believe it she was right there in front of me and within moments she was in the stall next to me, just like she use to be. But before I could take all that in, here came Spring with mommy down to my stall to say hello too!! yahooooooo, my sisters are here!!!!!!!!!! I am one happy BROWN horse!!! (that's our code name for  "chestnut"....hahahaha)  Wait till I tell the girls all about this place, they're gonna love it...........

Day ?

Well we've all settled in and things are looking good. I've been longingly gazing out my windows to the beautiful pastures my sisters and I will soon get to investigate. I hear Mom keep saying  "Spring is just around the corner" but I thought Spring was a couple of stalls down from me across the alleyway???? Can't figure out what she is talking about???? I've been doing longlining with Larry and my Mom. I like it ! Soon my second Mom, .Anna, will be riding me. She hugs and kisses me every night and talks about the fun we will have. I'm a pretty lucky horse I've decided.....I love the indoor arena here, the footing is soooooo nice I can really move.

Buffy also seems to love the footing although sometimes I think she loves to look at herself in the mirror more!!

Buffy!!!

Speaking of Buffy today is her birthday (Feb16th) she is now 5yrs old. I kinda like being her older brother, its an extra job I have but I like it. I've noticed that Spirit keeps whinning for her when she goes to work in the arena. He better not get any ideas about her.!!! She is beautoful though so I can't blame him for noticing her....

Buffy The Slayerr....   the Birthday girl

Day 53

Today was a great day!! It was the first time I got to go out to the large paddock that I will be sharing with my sisters. I've been looking out my windows at these fields since I got here and I've been eager to get out there and check them out. Mom walked me out there and I got to graze while she did something called lollygagging and bonding! Who ever heard of words like that...... Anyway it seemed to make Mom happy so its all good to me.

The sun was shining and it was warmer than its been here.....I kinda got a littlle excited and started circling around Mom on the end of the leadrope. She told me to quit it or we were going back in.....geee how's a guy suppose to have a little fun and express himself.  So she said that I would soon get to be out here for real grazing time, I guess I can wait till then.!

Things here in the barn are really hopping. We are in school everyday! Not much time for fun and games...except...... when Czar is out and about! You may ask "who is Czar"? Well, Czar is my new best buddy! First of all  he has a Russian name like I do. Already I like him... Second, I've never seen anything like him, in fact I'm still not sure what he is although I've heard my Moms and Sanna throw the word "GOAT around. We hit it right off and I love it when he comes over to my stall to visit I never know what he's going to do.

Me and my buddy Czar

But mostly I hear him get in trouble with Anna (my 2nd mom) only minutes after he gets out of his stall. Boy is he stupid. If I got out of my stall like he did I would be on my best behavior to stay OUT as long as possible, I guess GOATS aren't as smart as Arabians!!!!!

Czar back in his stall!

Day ?

I've been feeling alittle sluggish, not my usual "perky self".  Hmmmm...... Don't know why, but maybe because I've been working so hard. Mom seems very concerned and I heard the word VET, which as we all know, none of us like them! She was talking about them taking some of my blood! Can they do that?? Don't I need all my blood???? I don't like the sound of that one bit. (no horse pun intended!) Actually I'm just too tired to worry about it......What did I just say..? too tired to worry, ...why "WORRY" is my middle name. Oh, no.... maybe I am sick . But how can I be , I'm eating well , plenty of water, and exercise, plus lots of hugs and kisses. Well I'm sure Mom will figure it out.....

Day 74

Wow, I can't believe I've been here for 74 days already. Boy does time fly ! (whatever that means????) Well since I've been feeling alittle less than energetic, Mom has stopped all my work in the arena. I guess after the vet comes this week I might be able to start some workouts again. In an effort to keep me from getting bored while I'm resting Mom has arranged regular grazing time outside in the beautiful paddocks. When the weather is good she takes me out and sits with me in the field to keep me company. Yahoo ...I"m  pretty lucky cause I'm the only one who gets to go out right now. I'm really enjoying it, in fact so much that I didn't even want to come in today. I gave Mom a hard time today cause I just planted my feet and wouldn't move to leave the paddock. Actually I feel kind of bad about it because Mom is so good to me. So after a couple of moments I decided I best head on in to the barn with her. After all she promised me we could come back out again. (and I hope it's tomorrow) I made a slideshow of photos I got from my friend Sanna (She's a photographer you know.) to remember my great day!

Day ?

Well its been almost 3 weeks since the vet showed up. I guess they had a scheduled appointment but it would be nice if someone told me what day it was going to be. ... Anyway I got some Spring vaccinations and they did take some of my blood. Happily though I didn't even notice it!!! I think the vets were happy about that too. I 'm still alittle confused as to why I got "Spring " vaccinations , Spring should have gotten her own and I should have gotten a set of my own too. Gonna have to ask mom about that one. But I digress... the results from my blood test shows I am perfectly healthy horse, which means I get to go back to work which I started on Monday. Mom said I did really well and was quite proud of me. I love it when she tells me I'm a good boy!!!!hahaha  But my health is not the biggest news I have , oh no, its much bigger than that... Ready for this one, well you know those nice paddocks I told you about and you saw in my slideshow, well we've all been going out there for the past 2 weeks!!! The grass is greener than I've ever seen, and its growing so fast they are talking about cutting it, (not if I have anyrhing to do with it, I'm eating as fast as I can!) We'll see who cuts it down first......

Perfectly Healthy Me !

WEEEEEEEEEE..............

Enjoying grass in the orchard!

And just in case they get any ideas about cutting this grass soon I have enlisted reinforcements ...

United is helping me......

Contact is helping me.....

My sister Spring is helping me...... (and boy can she eat!)

Spirit is helping me........

Oops... Well Cheiftan is helping me too he's just on alittle break here.....

Buffy is helping me... (here I am giving her some pointers on how to speed up her eating style.!)

and my little buddy Czar is doing his part too ...

All in all I think we're all doing a great job and I'm hoping everyone else will notice that too.!

Day 150 (more or less)

Great news to report to all my readers, my Mom and Sanna are now back in the saddle on my back!!! I can't believe it but I'm really enjoying it and feel really relaxed with them. I guess I've come a long way from the days in Texas. Now when my Mom gets on I want to just walk right off nice and .....what's the word mom always uses hmmmmmmmm, oh yes , nice and forward. She even let me trot some because I was feeling so good about everything I thought I'd try some. Mom said it was the most awesome trot ,,,,, soft, fluid, and comfortable.!! She keeps saying I'm a star, which sounds good to me.!!! Usually stars are in the movies so maybe I'll get my own movie, at least a little one here on my site. Hopefully it will be soon.

Day ... too many for me to count!

Well I've been very busy... for a horse.... things at the barn are going really well. About a month ago two of my half sisters showed up here. Gee no one lets a guy know when relatives are coming. Naturally I was the very surprised and happy to see them. We were very close back in Texas because we were all born the same year 2000. New millenium horses!!!! So when weaning time came we got to hang out for a while. One , is a bay mare CR Kiyevs Melody , ( I put her pic below)

Melody

and the other is Zinadiah DWA  she is chestnut ( I've also got a pic of her... don't ask me where I get pictures from or how I even store them considering I'm a horse..hmmmmmm. I guess I'm just  a pretty clever fellow!)

Zinadiah

Mom said we can get some new pics of them now they are here. As soon as I get them I'll put them up. Maybe I can convince Mom to make a video of them too!

But enough about them for now, back to me. I've got some important news for you horses out there that don't live here in New England, ..well.. I found out that here in New England they must have the largest biting flies I've ever seen. In fact they call them B52's (which I understand is a plane, which of course is an exaggeration because they are not as big as a plane ,,,) but they are huge!!!! And they bite terribly hard and are relentless in following us around. So consequently (I love using those big people words) we have not been able to enjoy our gorgeous pastures in some time. Anna says they should start to die off in Mid August and maybe we can get back outside again.  I certainly hope so. Anyway if you are heading here bring lots of fly spray and plan on staying in the barn until they are gone!!!

DAY  ....hmmmm. Well you get the picture its been alot of days!

Just wanted to let you all know that my two sisters (I guess they're only half sisters but they sure look like a whole horse to me!) Melody and " Nadia" have their own videos on the Featured Horse page here on larrybaileyhorseworld.com. Please check them out I am so proud of them. Hey wait just one minute ,,,, how did they get a movie video before me??? I was here first and Mom has been promising one for me. I knew there was getting to be too many "girls" around here. First there was Spring, then Buffy , followed by two more of my sisters (Melody and Nadia) . I am completely out numbered here. Its apparent to me that the girls got together and decided to do only "girl" videos first , then I ,... the only gelding in the family would get my turn. Well since I am truly a gentleman , and the rule is ladies before gentlemen , I guess I can live with them getting their videos first. But I'm going to tell Mom I want a longer video then theirs , after all I am the only guy,,,, and a good looking one at that , so I deserve alittle more limelight!

My sister "Melody"  with Anna.

End of Summer

Well its Labor Day Weekend, the time that marks the end of summer for everyone, except for us horses, as long as the weather is still good its summer to us! My sisters, Melody and Nadia have been working hard at their training. I guess I'm going to have to step it up or they'll be out shining me, ( Can't have that!!!!) But the great news today is that the big nasty biting flies have gone and I got to go out in our lovely pastures again .Mom has been turning Buffy and I out and the other day Spring joined us too. Hey speaking of Buffy, yesterday she rode outside for the first time. I could see her right outside my window. She was walking in the dressage ring, and she seemed to be liking it. I kept calling to her but I guess she didn't hear me cause she never even looked my way. I wonder if there is something wrong with her hearing??? after all she certainly wouldn't ignore her older brother......would she??? Girls, I just can't figure them out ...one minute they're hollering for your attention, the next they don't know you.  Anyway things all in all are just the way I like them so I can't complain  !!!

October 2008

Things here at Terrybrooke have been going great.I've been working very hard at my training and then I get to go outside after my workout Yeah!!! The grass is 10 feet high !!  ok maybe I am exagerating alittle. But it's higher than I've ever seen and green too. I've also noticed the trees are turning all kinds of colors too. (Bet you didn't know that horses can see color... just not exactly as humans do). And the temps are just about perfect too. Can't beat this life!!!! Horse paradise. There's been talk too of a video of me being made in the next week . I have to say I am sure enjoying this new training regime... it's very interesting and allows me to really use my God given talents.

My friend Contact went to another barn up north... they say he is doing quite well and may have a new owner soon. I think Chieftan is happy he is gone because he got his stall, its a double. He really thinks he's cool now with his big stall with the great views. All in all though there is a peaceful harmony in the barn and I would say alot of happy horses. Oh but I forgot ,,, poor Czar has an eye infection. The vet came and brought some medicine for his eye. Anna and Mom have to put the meds in 3 times a day and the only way he'll stand for it is if they feed him my sweet feed! Now Czar and I are pals but.... I think he's playing it up with this eye to get more sweet feed. !? (I sure would  hahahahaha.)

November  08

WEll we all have matching blankets on now because the cold weather finally arrived. I'm not sure if  I should have the same style blanket as " the girls" and the same color too... but Mom assures me we all look super! I found out today that I will be getting body clipped . I'm not sure what that is.... but it has to do with me having alot of workouts this winter and they say I will probably sweat too much with all the coat I have now. Boy, sometimes I have to really wonder about the things my Mom and Anna talk about. I mean who talks about how much someone will be sweating????? So I guess next time I write I will have my new clip?!???  Today I also got a new stall. It is a double stall like Cheiftan has. So it appears that all us geldings  (Spirit , Cheiftan and I ) have the 3 double stalls in the barn!!!! After all we are bigger than any of the girls so we need the extra leg room.

Spirit and Czar !! (see Spirit is body clipped!!!)

My friend Czar is doing much better. His eye is all cleared up and he's looking and acting like his old self. Poor guy though had to have alot of medication... ointment in his eye and shots too, hate to say it but better him than me. But he came by my stall today and we shared some hay together  which was great.

Czar back outside at his favorite rose bush...

Let's see what else hmmmmm....... the girls are getting alot of work although their coats are still so fine and short they won't have to get body clipped. Here's alittle clip of  "Nadia"  the other day.

One Day in Spring 2009

Ok you probably have been wondering where I've been , well I just thawed out! It was such a longggggg cold winter I thought I'd never get warm. Not to mention I got body clipped for the first time this winter and had to wear about 15 layers of blankets. Ok so I exaggerate alittle, maybe not 15 blankets but alot! Anna has been keeping me going all winter long though. She's one tough lady!!! She braves that cold weather when others would wither. (Is that my wither spelling or did I spell it right ?) Well you know what I mean.  I must say I feel and look quite fit. I love my work and Anna and mom say I am a superstar! But the biggest news so far is Anna is going to be my permanent Mom! I didn't realize I could be bought and sold but apparently that's what happened when Mom got me and now that's what is happening because Anna is going to be my Mom. I sure am one lucky horse, now I'll have this super place to live and 2 mom's hovering over me. If I know my mom she'll always be keeping her eye on me, after all she says I'm her best fella and she loves me so much! So as you can see life is good for me.

Let's see what else has be going on here???? Well Czar had another problem with his eye but he's better now. Me and the girls have been going out in the paddocks a few times and my other sister Melody just started to join us too. Buffy has been the most friendly to her, but then again she's such a social butterfly. Spring and I are playing it cool for now. Melody seems nice but Spring has made it clear that we don't get to talk to Melody until Spring says its ok. Boy older sisters are sooooo bossy.

So now that I'm back to normal all thawed out and all I guess I should start writing more often. Will do!

May 2009

Ahhh Spring  (the season!) it is so wonderful here at Terrybrooke . The grass is sooooo green and lush we just can't gey enough of it! .The girls and I go out regularly now and don't do much outside except EAT. Just to appease Mom though we put alittle show on when she first turns us out /. Spring rallies us all up and she leads the thundering gallop to the furthest paddock. We dance and twirl, leap and spin going in a circle together and then dispersing. I feel like a syncronized  swimmer. (not sure what that is but it sounded good!!!!!). But it all ends as fast as it started and we get down to the real fun of eating the Kentucky blue grass out there.

BUFFY,   SPRING,  and  MELODY

As you can see from the photo my sisters are all business when it comes to that green grass. !!!!

JUNE 09

There has been alot of flurrying aound going on here. I just got back from my spring vacation. Though I didn't actually go anywhere Mom decided I could have one just like the college students get because I have been working so hard at my training! So it was lots of grass and fly spray for me instead of lots of sand and sunblock. hahahaha But when I got out of vacation mode I was told I had to take my baby sister to her Prom! Again I am unfamiliar with the term "Prom" so I am at a lose of what it all means. I guess it wasn't a real prom just make believe for Buffy. They said she went to the beauty salon and got a haircut , shampoo, conditioning etc. She really did look pretty though even though I'm alittle prejuidice cause she's my baby sister. Anyway it was nothing more than we all got turned out on the lovely grass paddocks ! See a picture of my sister Zinaidia below. She looks great too if I do say so myself!

June 2010

Well it finally happened.... Mom made a movie of me at my first Open Dressage show  ( oh did I mention this is my first show too)! It was at Beland Stables and I got a fourth place on my First Level Test 2,  test. The whole day is like a blur cause there were so many new things to see at the show. But everyone said I was a very good boy  so I guess that means I did well. Robert was my rider and he really helped me get through my pre- test gitters. I also had a loose shoe right before my class and we had to find a farrier to fix it. Oh yea, I have shoes on now, first pair I ever had. They are pretty cool and they are shiny too. I've decided they look really good on me. And they make me feel even taller!! I'm in training every day and I've heard talk in the barn about me going to more shows.  :)  I also get to go out every day too. The paddocks are super lush and green, the kind every horse dreams about ! hahaha. All in all life is very good. I'm one happy horse.  :)   Here's the link to my video, check it out.
